Designer: PRECIOUS MOKOMANE

Precious works mostly in polished brass that is sometimes gold plated. Her forms are simple, contempory and timeless.
She is a young South African designer that has been trained at the Ekurhuleni Jewellery Project based near Johannesburg.

Designer: NJABU

Her 925 silver and perspex designs are inspired by the Zulu earplugs used in ear-piercing ceremonies for children before they reach pubity thereby symbolising their transition to adulthood. The practice has become less common and igighaza are now mostly worn as a fashion accessory.
The designs are a modern take on the izighaza celebrating life’s transition from past to present and from old to new.

Mano’s father owned the lucky packet factory and the influence of being brought up in this environment is evident in all his creations – each piece being a sumptuous feast of ‘Edidble Art’.
The lucky packet was an South African icon. Each packet filled with surprise of sweets, novelties, trinkets and charms.

Designer: KNOWLEDGE MAKWATI

Knowledge was brought up in Soweto and has been making jewellery from rolled fabrics since she was 7 years old. She can often be seen around and about with a bag of off cut fabrics that she collects from various fashion designers that are then turned into these colourful neck pieces.

Designer: THE IMVELO GROUP OF WOMEN

Imvelo – the Zulu word for nature – was established in Swaziland by a Catholic NGO.
The project works with over 25 women from the informal urban settlements around Manzini.
Each piece is made by hand resulting in a design that is uniquely soulful.

Marjorie hails from Bloemfontein – the city of flowers.
She received her Masters degree in Fine Art from the University of the Free State and has done many things.
She is now the driving force behind Mugamuga – a jewellerey design range.

Koketso Mohlala started the Ditsala designs jewellery manufacturing studio which is based in Soshanguve, a township near Pretoria South Africa. She not only provides employment for many local people in her area but also ethically sources materials from them.

Kioni is based in the Limpopo region of South Africa They are a collective that is committed to helping the surrounding community. They empower women through training and job creation by giving them the opportunity to earn an income while working from home.

Designer: FRANSA COLE

The MOVING METAL Story. Fransa Cole is one of the partners in Moving Metal jewellery collaboration.
She has been making bespoke pieces using her signature technique called fold forming.
She also creates pieces in combinations of copper, brass and silver.
